Chikungunya Fever is a virus transmitted mainly by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito, however, other species of mosquito may also be responsible for transmission.  It is endemic in Africa, South East Asia and Saudi Arabia. A typical course of the viral infection begins with rapid onset of severe joint pains - back pain is often present - as well as general flue like symptoms. A rash is normally present and photophobia (over sensitivity to bright light) may occur.
Chikungun fever has no vaccination or specific treatment available and the only prevention is the avoidance of mosquito bites.
